Common mistakes in intimate toy care

Read the instructions

Similar devices can have different water resistance and charging rules. Check material and protection before use. Splash resistance does not mean safe immersion. Keep the manual accessible.

Avoid improvised cleaners

Harsh cleaners and fragranced household products can damage surfaces or irritate skin. Follow cleaning and lubricant guidance. Do not boil electronic devices, and do not confuse washing with sterilisation.

Plan before sharing

Reduce infection risks with instructed cleaning and a new condom where suitable. Change barriers between people and body areas. Cracks, stickiness or unusual smells are reasons to stop using a product.

Listen to discomfort

Stop if pain or irritation occurs and seek advice for persistent symptoms. Do not charge or use damaged devices. Comfort matters more than achieving an expected result.

Make a short checklist for your model

Before first use, note four points from the manual: permitted cleaning, charging rules, compatible lubricant and water limitations. Save a photograph of the instructions with the model name. This is especially useful when several devices at home have different requirements. Do not transfer instructions between products simply because they look alike. If the manual is missing or material information conflicts, ask the seller for clarification before using the item.

Understand the controls beforehand

Locate the power, mode and stop controls. Check a travel lock if provided and learn how to stop the device without an app. Inspect the housing, cable and connector, including any unusual heat or smell. A long feature list does not automatically make a device easier to use. Clear controls and an immediate way to stop matter more than an impressive collection of modes. Do not charge during use unless the manufacturer explicitly permits it.

Avoid household assumptions about cleaning

Water-resistant and easy to clean can describe different limitations. Confirm whether immersion, washing connectors or a particular cleaning product is permitted. Boiling, alcohol and a dishwasher are not universal care methods. Cleaning a surface is not the same as sterilising it. After care, inspect difficult corners and allow the item to dry. If you intend to share it, discuss protection, cleaning and separate accessories in advance rather than leaving these decisions until the last moment.

Know when to put the item aside

A sticky surface, cracks, peeling coating, damaged attachment or unusual heat are reasons to stop using it. Do not cover a defect with glue or improvised wrapping. Contact the manufacturer about replacement options. If contact causes pain, irritation or other persistent symptoms, seek individual assessment rather than stronger cleaning followed by another attempt. A useful purchase has a clear purpose and manageable care requirements; the most complicated model is not automatically the best.
